Husky Sled Rides in Levi, Finland – An Arctic Adventure You’ll Never Forget

If you’ve ever dreamed of gliding across snowy landscapes pulled by a team of energetic huskies, Levi, Finland is the perfect place to turn that dream into reality. Husky sled rides are one of the most unforgettable and authentic experiences you can enjoy in Lapland — a magical blend of adventure, nature, and tradition.

What is a Husky Safari?

A husky safari is a guided dog sledding tour where you ride through pristine Arctic wilderness with a sled team of Siberian or Alaskan huskies. You can either sit and enjoy the view, or take control and drive your own sled, learning the commands and techniques from your expert guide.

It’s a thrilling, peaceful, and surprisingly personal experience — the connection with the dogs and the silence of the snowy forest make it unlike anything else.

Why Try It in Levi?

Levi is not only Finland’s top ski destination, but also home to several well-respected husky farms that care deeply for their animals and the tradition of mushing. Here’s why Levi is one of the best places to go husky sledding:

  • Breathtaking landscapes: Ride through frozen forests, over open fells, and across snow-covered lakes.
  • Authentic Lapland experience: Many husky farms are family-run, and include stories, history, and even warm drinks around a fire after the ride.
  • Northern Lights safaris: Some tours take place in the evening, giving you a chance to spot the Aurora Borealis from the sled.
  • Family-friendly options: Tours are available for all ages, from short 2 km rides to half-day adventures.

What to Expect on a Tour

  1. Warm Welcome at the Husky Farm
You’ll start with an introduction to the dogs and the basics of mushing (driving a sled).
  2. Meet the Huskies
These dogs are friendly, excited, and absolutely love to run. Most are happy to be petted and photographed.
  3. Ride the Trail
Depending on the length of the tour, you’ll ride for 15 minutes to several hours. You can ride solo, share a sled, or switch halfway.
  4. Post-Ride Time
Enjoy a warm drink and local snacks in a traditional Lappish hut (called a kota) while listening to stories from your guide.
  5. Optional Add-Ons
Some tours include reindeer encounters, snowshoeing, or visits to nearby ice villages.

When is the Best Time?

Husky rides are available from late November to early April, depending on snow conditions. The best time to combine it with Northern Lights spotting is between December and March.
